Port Blair, Feb 28 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi will visit the Andaman islands of Car Nicobar and Cambell Bay where she will unveil a statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Indira Point.
Before leaving for New Delhi, Gandhi will also hand over the keys of permanent shelters to tsunami-affected persons near Car Nicobar Airport, re-emphasizing the UPA Government's pledge to rehabilitate and improve the lives of people affected by natural calamites.
On Friday, Sonia told a party rally in Andhra Pradesh that the Congress party has fulfilled its promises and brought change in the lives of the common man in the past five years. The Congress party is committed to provide equal opportunities for facilities such as education and health for all sections of society," she said.
She further added that it would be difficult to achieve equality among different sections without providing tribals their due rights over forests.
Earlier, she said that science and technology must act as powerful tools to end narrow-minded bigotry and intolerance.
Addressing a gathering of students and delegates after laying the foundation stone of a new IIT complex at Kandi village in the Medak district of Andhra Pradesh, Sonia said: "Education should impart the values of a modern liberal society that derive strength by respecting and celebrating it's many diversities."
