National, Mon, 19 Jan 2009 IANS

New Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) The wife of Satte Prakash, an alleged gang leader who was injured in a shootout with police in south Delhi Monday evening, said he is innocent and police were framing him.

'I don't have any information about what has happened to him but I am sure police are just framing him,' a bewildered Rubina, 21, told IANS.

'He had called in the afternoon and told me that Bitto, a friend of his, is taking him somewhere. He told me that Bitto is forcing him though he doesn't want to go. At that time, they were near Lajpat Nagar area,' she said.

Four people were injured in a shootout with police in Green park area around 4 p.m. Police say they are members of a gang of bank robbers. The injured were taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

Satte Prakash and Rubina were married three years ago and have a seven-month-old son, Ishan. They live in Kodhi Colony area of Nand Nagari northeast Delhi.

The police said Satte Prakash is a 'bad character' of the area.

'Some time back the Uttar Pradesh police had arrested him. He is on bail at present. He is a driver by profession but at present is not doing anything,' Rubina said.

'I have no information regarding him right now. The police have framed him and he is not accused. I will clear all the police allegations,' she added.

'Some time ago, someone had mentioned his name in a case and since then police were looking for him. Few days ago police even took me to their office in Sunlight Colony area and asked me to tell my husband to come before them. They even slapped me,' Rubina said.

'I had told police officials clearly that Satte will come to them himself. I don't know what to do now,' she added.
