National,Business, Fri, 02 Jan 2009 IANS

Kolkata, Jan 2 (IANS) Around 50,000 officers in public sector oil companies across the country are going on an indefinite strike from Jan 7 demanding a wage hike, the head of an officers' association said Friday.

'We are meeting in New Delhi Saturday to chalk out our plan for the strike,' said Subodh Dakwale, president of the Indian Oil Corp (IOC) Officers' Association, speaking to IANS on phone from Jaipur.

The strike was earlier scheduled to start Dec 2, but was deferred after the Nov 26 terror attack in Mumbai.

Officers from 14 oil companies are under the banner of the Oil Sector Officers' Association (OSOA), which is calling the strike.

'This is the time when some action should be taken to meet our demand. The management and the ministry should take required steps now,' Dakwale said. 'We have given an 11-point charter of demands to the petroleum ministry.'
