Chennai, Jan 1 (IANS) A middle-aged couple, formerly employed with central government organisations, were Thursday found murdered in their house in southern suburb of Chennai, the police said.

According to police sources, the bodies of K. Ananthakrishnan, 44, and his wife Jamuna Bai, 41, were discovered after a neighbour complained of foul smell emanating from their flat in Saidapet.

The bodies were lying in dried pool of blood and their necks were slit.

Valuables and cash worth over Rs.1.5 million were found missing from their flat.

Ananthakrishnan and his wife, both of whom worked for the central government but in different departments, had taken voluntary retirement from their jobs about a year ago, according to V. Kumar, a relative who assisted the police during enquiries.

A special team has been set up to hunt for the killers, police sources added.
