Ludhiana, Dec.22 (ANI): Wedding season in Punjab is a high time for designers, as wedding planners and others cash in on the new trends. Despite the global financial slowdown, the wedding industry of the State is unperturbed and continuing to grow here.
The Punjabi weddings continue to be a delightful affair. From designer outfits to jewellry and food arrangements, the average expenses on a wedding in Punjab vary between 25,000 dollars to 100,000.
Recently a three-day wedding show called `Wedding Asia Royal Jewels' was organized in Ludhiana for people of Punjab. Primarily designed for the elite section of the society, it showcased ostentatious and luxury collections.
Celebrity designers, beauticians, jewelers and caterers were brought under one roof to offer Punjabis a complete luxury setting for their weddings.
Maninder S.Sethi, organizer of the Wedding Asia-royal Jewels, said: "The market in Punjab is growing very fast. The NRIs spend a lot of money on their weddings in Punjab. They prefer to hold their wedding and other related events in Punjab only. They spend lavishly. This is purely NRIs season. That is why we have decided to do this event in December."
"Punjabis are very well-connected globally. They have a good sense of jewellery and fashion. Moreover, wedding industry is growing by more than 50 per cent every year. It's more than 25000 crore industry in India itself. The major share is from north India, where Punjab is on the top," Sethi added.
"I don't think recession has affected the Punjabi market. Lavish weddings are happening, and during this wedding season, banquet business is much better than last year. There is no feel of any financial meltdown here," Sethi further added.
Meanwhile, for exhibitors at the special show, it offered a platform to trace new markets.
Shruti Kapoor, one designer, said: "Well! Wedding Asia is a great platform for the upcoming designers. Even though I am from Delhi, the designer people are still very keen on looking at their stuff because during recession in the economy people can't afford it very much. So, definitely with the upcoming designers like me it offers a better idea to sell one's designed clothes even at the price range its more affordable for people."At the show, the royal jewellery of Rajasthan, the young jewellery designers showcased exquisite collection of high-end diamond jewelry for the would-be-brides.
Cesta Belgium Chocolates, Geetanjali with luxury watches, Saisang Home Furnishers with their home décor accessories were all there to make the event worth visiting and satisfying. By Karan Kapoor(ANI)
