Sonia Gandhi says, new Laws to combat terrorism on anvil (lead:Sonia Gandhi)

Kochi, dec.16 (ANI): UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi said on Tuesday, new Laws to combat terrorism on anvil.

 

Addressing the public rally here, Sonia Gandhi said that the measures taken unanimously by all the parties willefinitely help in combating terrorism.

 

Earlier, Gandhi inaugurated the rally of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and also asked party workers to pull up their socks for the upcoming national elections to be held in 2009.

 

Gandhi said that several measures like setting up of national investigating agency and new coastal command to ensure maritime security have been taken up to combat terrorism.

 

She was categorical that India cannot be cowed down by terror attacks and more laws are on the anvil to tackle terrorism.

 

Sonia Gandhi said, "New laws to deal with terrorism more effectively are also on the anvil. Our ministers, the government are in the process of discussing all these with the opposition, with our coalition partners so that as soon as possible, we can go ahead with this plan."

 

On Monday cabinet gave its approval for the setting up of national investigating agency and also approved amendments in the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act of 1967 and Central Industrial Security Force Act in the wake of recent Mumbai attack that has claimed more than 164 lives.

 

She added that all the parties have unanimously decided to take measures to deal with terrorism and this sends a signal to the entire world.

 

Sonia added, "Through this resolution we sent out a most powerful signal to our enemies and to the world that the entire country is united in its resolve to combat terrorism. That nobody anywhere have any doubt about the determination and about the Indian national congress to defeat the forces of terrorism."(ANI)
