India's high morals not seen in daily life: Karan Singh

National, Mon, 15 Dec 2008 IANS

Kolkata, Dec 15 (IANS) The high principles and traditions of Indian culture seem to have largely disappeared from society today, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) president Dr. Karan Singh has said.

'We have very high morals but when it comes to implementation, we see the complete opposite. Everything what is happening around us is totally different than what we have learnt from our traditions,' Singh said here Sunday evening while releasing a book 'Indian Culture'.

'Our intelligentsia should come forward and think over this issue so that we can rectify these social blemishes,' Singh said

Published by Bharatiya Vidya Mandir, the book is an eight-volume compilation of articles by a number of eminent scholars and gives a kaleidoscopic glimpse of Indian traditions. The book has been edited by J.K. Sadani and B.D. Mundra.

Appreciating the initiative to bring out such a book, he said: 'I am optimistic that this book would provide an insight to all the readers and would help to popularise our age-old culture.'
