Sonia Gandhi says, get united to combat terror

Baran, Sun, 30 Nov 2008 ANI

Baran (Rajasthan), Nov 30 (ANI): The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi, urged the people of India to be united at this hour and fight the menace of terrorism.

Addressing an election rally in Baran in Rajasthan today, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson said while referring to the Mumbai terror attacks, "The time has come for all of us to come together and combat this menace and eradicate it from the country."

She added that the former Prime Ministers, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and her husband Rajiv Gandhi, had dedicated their lives for preserving the unity and integrity of the country and all efforts should be made to ensure it remained intact.

Sonia Gandhi said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Rajasthan Government is corrupt and people should oust it to bring back the state on the path of progress.

She further informed the rally that the Centre had launched the Rajiv Gandhi Rozgar Yojna in all districts of the State to increase employment opportunities.

The Congress President said the UPA Government had waived off Rs. 60000 crore loan of the farmers.

"The Centre had implemented several schemes for the welfare of poor, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes (OBC) and empowerment of women but its benefit could not reach them due to corruption by the BJP government in the state," Gandhi said.

She alleged in the end that the BJP-led State government does not have any account of money allotted by the Centre for various central sponsored schemes and time has come to defeat the corrupt BJP government from the State. (ANI)
