New Delhi, Nov 29 (ANI): Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit cast their votes on Saturday.
Over 10 million voters will elect their legislators from 863 candidates contesting the polls.
It seems that the recent terror strike in Mumbai has had an impact on voters as well as the politicians.
"There is a sense of great relief that the operation is over. It has been conducted in a very determined manner, avoiding as much loss as possible. In spite of that many of our officers have been killed and we salute them for their great sacrifice. Also, those civilians, who have died in this event, all our sympathy goes to them, and our heart goes out to them," said Dikshit.
Elections will be held in 69 out of the total 70 constituencies while the polling for Rajendra Nagar seat, where Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) BJP candidate Puran Chand Yogi allegedly committed suicide during campaigning, will take place on December 13.
A total of 79 observers have been deputed by the Election Commission to oversee the elections.
Polling in the 69 Assembly constituencies will be held in 10,985 booths located in 2509 premises.
A total of 863 candidates are in the fray for 69 seats of the 70-member Assembly polls. About 10.7 million voters are eligible to decide the fortunes of 863 candidates.
The counting of votes will take place on December 8. Counting for the Rajendra Nagar seat will be held on December 15.
About 70,000 security personnel will be deployed to ensure free and fair elections to the Legislative Assembly.
The Election Commission has identified 346 polling stations as hypersensitive and 1218 others as sensitive, out of a total of 11,044 booths.
