Kolkata, Nov 18 (IANS) A devastating fire broke out at a paint storehouse in Salkia of Howrah district Tuesday night, police and fire brigade officials said.
Fuelled by the presence of highly combustible materials like turpentine oil, diesel and hardware items, the fire spread fast, damaging some nearby hutments with tiled roofs, they said.
Ten fire tenders sent to the spot brought the fire under control. The paint shop, however, was gutted.
An unspecified number of people were hospitalised after they complained of breathlessness on inhaling the fumes.
The cause of the fire was not yet clear.
