BJP's Obsession with Terrorism: Some More Issues

The victory of Karnataka has made BJP jubilant, and charged enough for the next years’ Parliamentary election. On the other hand the ghost of inflation are still haunting Congress and its tail are increasing by every passing week. BJP is now in a belligerent posture, and they are full of ammunitions. Unfortunately, these ammunitions are from the same Hindutava ordinance, which is core of BJP’s ideology.

The failures of UPA government on economic fronts are most glaring but for BJP Secularism, Article 370, and above all Terrorism are the only national problems.

Right now, terrorism is the buzzword for them and they are shouting it loud all over the nation. There is a very old saying that if you point one finger towards someone rest four is towards you. For BJP the same is applied and terrorism is not an issue, which BJP or UPA can tackle in a year or so. Let examine the record of accomplishment of the NDA government in handling and controlling terrorism.

Kargil War of 1999, happened when BJP was in the power, it was one of the biggest intelligence failure from Indian side where not only the terrorist but also the regular Pakistani military infiltrated upto 150 Km inside the Indian Territory. The war won by gallantry effort of our soldiers, many of them sacrificed their life to push back the infiltrators from the Indian side. The NDA government not agreed to accept the responsibility for such an intelligence failure, which is a blunder.

One cannot forget the coffin - scam after the Kargil war in which many high profile leaders of NDA were involved. In the same category, please do not forget that the same NDA unnecessary mobilised army in Rajasthan in the hottest months of India's weather and in this unwanted practice, more lives were lost than the Kargil war. This was just been done because the Hindutava forces of this nation is always remained obsessed with the idea of security and when it comes to their door they wake up late.

On 13 December 2001, Indian Parliament was attacked, when NDA was in power. The biggest symbol of Indian democracy attacked, but NDA failed to do anything. If the same has happened in the UPA’s regime BJP would have taken the entire nation on its head.

The self-proclaimed nationalist surrendered easily at the time when Indian Airlines flight 814 was hijacked form Nepal’s Tribhuvan international airport on 24 December 1999. The hijacked Plane landed in Amritsar but it lately told that Indian, National Security Guards was stuck in the traffic jam and did not able to reach the airport for a rescue operation. The Plane finally landed in Khandhar, of Afghanistan where exchange of Passengers done with the release of three dared terrorists.

The then Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh, himself taken the three terrorists and handed them over to the hijackers. This incident exposed our defence preparedness to deal with such an emergency. These are three big terrorist activities in the history of terrorist activities in India and all of them took place in the regime of NDA government.

Coming to BJP’s argument that in the absence of stringent law terrorism has grown in the recent past is a completely flawed argument. BJP is very upset on the repeal of POTA, and for them only POTA can curb the menace of terrorism. They forget that now almost every terrorist organization has suicide squads, for them death is not an issue. Terrorist are also tough and by any law they cannot be totally controlled.

The country like America is engaged in its own defined ‘War on Terrorism’ with few success and many failures be it in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Osama Bin Laden.

The only way to deal with terrorism is to take the people in confidence and by doing so isolate these preachers of hatred and violence mongers. Dialogue with Pakistan must continue and any fundamentalist approach towards any community be checked. Do not forget the fact that many of the present recruits to HujI (terrorist group involved in Jaipur attack) come from the Gujarat riots victims. Politics of hate and revenge will only lead to destruction and no fundamentalist organization is for humanity but for eye for an eye.

BJP, which is making terrorism an issue citing the example of Jaipur blast should not afford to ignore that it is a BJP ruled state. The much of responsibility lies with the State government, the role of Centre is important but BJP cannot run away from its own accountability.

The Saffron party is making Jaipur blast a national issue but what about the Gujjar agitation, which has cost nation more exchequers than the terrorist strike of Jaipur. More than 50 lives are lost in the Gujjar agitation and if we compare the figures (Which by no scale of humanity is justified) we get not much difference.

Vasundhara Raje failed to bring any thaw with Gujjars, whom she had promised the ST status in her election assurance. This should be a revelation for BJP and it should stop coning irrational issues of which they know that nothing can be done in a year or two.

Terrorism in an international problem and will take a lot of time, understanding, and needs a change in the approach of all the hawks before finding a solution to it. There are many issues like price hike, growing unemployment, and distress in the rural sector, crumbling health sector, etc for elections, on which BJP is mute.

No Wonder BJP is blind towards common people’s issues because they have to pursue the same neo-liberal path of economy, which will bring more such woes to the Indian people. Many people in this nation are dying in countryside, in the absence of health facility than the total number of people killed in terrorism. Human life is precious; any loss by any reason is condemnable and those who distinguish between the kinds of death are insane.
