The President of India, Pratibha Devisingh Patil has appealed to the Ayurveda researchers, scholars and experts to further strengthen their efforts to work on patenting and standardisation of Ayurvedic products. She has also asked to publish the detailed pharmacopoeia, a book describing the detail the properties, action, use, dosage, and standards of strength and purity of drugs with articles on their preparation and use for helping the common men as this means of medicine is not only effective in treating the disease but also very cost effective.
Speaking on the presentation of Pandit Ramnarayan Vaidya Puraskar function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 20, Pratibha said, “Such efforts would give a boost to the exports of Ayurvedic medicine.”
“The Ayurvedic medicine system has many advantages, which need to be brought out and made known to the people in a more active way. Ayurvedic products must establish their identity, as it is an affordable system for the economically weaker sections of society,” said president.
She emphasised on popularising this system among Indians besides boosting the exports of Ayurveda products. For this, experts will have to make more efforts to standardising the products and their patenting. The publishing of Ayurveda pharmacopoeia will also delight the experts and scholars of Ayurveda that will pave the way of popularising this medicine system, as per president cited.
Describing about her foreign visit to Brazil, Mexico and Chile last month, president said that during her discussions with the leaders there, she spoke about the Ayurvedic system of medicine and presented CDs with details. She told the leaders about the characteristics of Ayurvedic medicines and its importance for common man.
‘The leaders of the hosting nations had appreciated her for her presentation and information about Ayurvedic medicines’, as president said in the released statement.
The President has awarded Ayurveda scholar H S Kasture for the year 2003 and Suresh Kumar Chaturvedi for 2004 followed by Ayurveda scholar R H Singh for 2005, Mayaram Uniyal for 2006 and T L Devraj for 2007. These awards have been given to them for their remarkable contributions in Ayurveda field.
