Rahul Raj shot dead in Mumbai bus firing

In one incident of its kind in Mumbai, one man was killed in a police shoot-out on Monday (October 27) morning after he tried to take hostage a local passenger bus at gunpoint. He has been identified as Rahul Raj.

Reportedly, Rahul a youth from Bihar, who opened fire from a double-decker bus number 332 in Bail Bazar area of Kurla was later shot dead by the police.

According to Mumbai police report, the youth who had come from Patna wanted to pass a message to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray over incessant violence against North Indians living in Maharastra.

Police also stressed that despite their repeated appeal for surrender; he refused, forcing them to shoot. The boy, wounded by two bullets, was later taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

Meanwhile, a video recorded by a private news channel shows the youth sitting in the bus, carrying a pistol in his hand.

The shootout has so far brought critical reaction from different quarters; some terming the Mumbai police action as in excess. Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar too in a comment said Mumbai police could have done the opposite by trying to arrest the boy.
