Jabalpur, Oct 14 (ANI): Mohammad Ali, the treasurer of the banned Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and a suspect in the recent Ahmedabad and Jaipur serial blasts, has been taken into three-days custody by the police following a court order in Jabalpur.
Ali was produced before a local court order in Jabalpur on Monday.
"He is accused of attacking government officials. We will interrogate him to find out about his accomplices and as he worked as a treasurer we will try to figure out how the organization was funded," said Makrand Deuskar, Superintendent of Police.
India has witnessed a spate of serial blasts during the past few months claiming hundreds of innocent lives and leaving hundred others maimed and injured.
Police have blamed SIMI for most attacks in recent years, but say that Muslims appear to have been given training and backing by militant groups in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
SIMI came into being during a conclave in Aligarh in 1977 as an offshoot of Jamaat-e-Islami-Hind, a moderate religious and social organization of Muslims with a strong network of members and scholars across India. (ANI)
