Thorpe admits he's nowhere near his best ahead of 2012 London Olympics

Sydney, Jan 13(ANI) Australian swimmer and five time Olympic champion Ian Thorpe has admitted that he needs to dramatically increase his speed ahead of the 2012 London Olympics, after he failed to qualify for the finals of the Victorian State 100metre freestyle event.horpe did not dominate the race at any stage, and turned the first lap last and finished the race in 51.05 seconds, The Age reports.

 

Thorpe shoulders a huge burden of expectations from his fans for the 2012 London Olympics.

 

This is his second tournament since he announced his comeback last year.

 

Thorpe clocked 50.84 seconds in the 100 freestyle and one minute 51.51 seconds in the 200 freestyle of the Italian tournament last month.is average performance has raised questions whether he has enough time to prepare for the Olympics with the selection trials scheduled to take place in March.(ANI)
