Congress does not want leaders in party like Kushwaha, says Rashid Alvi

New Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): Days after Arun Jaitley accused the ruling UPA Government of lacking the capability to govern, the ruling Congress Party on Friday mockingly said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the moment believes in leadership qualities similar to that of tainted Uttar Pradesh Minister Babu Singh Kushwaha.

"I don't know on what references has he spoken such things. I don't know the definition of leadership as termed by Arunji (Arun Jaitley). If he thinks that there should be a leadership like that of Kushwahaji then for sure our party does not have any leadership similar to it," said Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi.

Arun Jaitley had earlier on Monday said the biggest problem faced by the country today is the lack of leadership in the government.

"People feel that the government does not have the leadership to take decisions. In UPA 1, we used to say that there is a parallel power center outside government, but in UPA 2, there are ideological differences within government and so they are not able to take simple decisions," said Jaitley.

"Such situation leads to economic weakness. The enthusiasm of economy is breaking. Our international image is being maligned. India had emerged as a destination for investment, now people think that investing outside is better," he added, while emphasizing that the present political situation was affecting the economic environment of the country.

Rashid Alvi also hit out at Samajwadi Party (SP) General Secretary Akhilesh Yadav, who had said that the Congress Party was confused in its stand on providing reservation to Muslims.

""These all politicians have been in power at some time or the other. Whenever they were in power, they never thought of the Other Backward Class (OBC) or the Muslim community. Today, when the Congress Party has moved ahead with 4.5 percent then the leaders of various political outfits are now talking about reservation," said Alvi.

"The public is sensible, the Muslims are sensible. They very well understand these statements that are made at the time of polls," he added.

Akhilesh Yadav had earlier on Thursday said that the Congress Party is confused on its reservation promise to the Muslim community.

"After providing 4.5 per cent reservation to minorities, Congress leader Salman Khursheed is now talking of giving 9 per cent reservation to Muslims. Why is the party confused," he said, while addressing a rally in Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh. (ANI)
