London, Jan 12(ANI): Suspected Al-Qaeda chief Sami Mohamed Ali al-Fadli has been banned from flying to the United Kingdom in wake of a possible terror threat to the 2012 London Olympics.
Home Secretary Theresa May has ordered that the suspected terrorist leader must not be allowed to board any flight into the UK, after intelligence chiefs cautioned that he can be a threat to the London Olympics.
"This man is regarded as a very real threat. Information about him indicates that he could also be in a position to influence and lead others," a British intelligence source said last night.
Fadli who used to stay in Britain as a refugee, is the second such suspect with alleged terror links after Algerian Reda Masouf, to be banned from flying to the UK.
There is a fear among UK intelligence chiefs that Al-Qaeda agents could plan a gory massacre to disrupt this summer's games.
Intelligence sources told The Sun, "This man is deemed to pose a significant threat. While here he linked up with other extremists. The security services concluded that his presence was not conducive to the public good. A major concern is that an attack could be attempted here or on an aircraft traveling here".
"As a result, action has been taken to exclude him from Britain. His name has been added to the no-fly list and the list for pre-departure flight checks. His leave to remain has been withdrawn and his travel documents revoked," the sources added. (ANI)
