New York, Jan 11 (ANI): Christina Aguilera has revealed that being a single mom has been a 'struggle', following her 2010 divorce from husband of five years Jordan Bratman.
The 31-year-old singer, confessed about floundering in the spotlight over the past few years in the February issue of Marie Claire, calling the string of incidents that ended with her embarrassing Super Bowl performance "a rough year."
Following her split from Bratman, Aguilera's album "Bionic" and film "Burlesque" both pulled in low numbers and numerous critical reviews.
"It's hard for anyone to go through that in public," the New York Daily quoted her as saying about her failed marriage.
"But when you're a celebrity and under a microscope, it's 58 million times harder.
"I grew an even thicker skin after that hard year," she said.
Aguilera, who has one son, Max Liron, with Bratman, said her new life as a single mom has helped her reprioritise her life and become a stronger person.
"I love the theatrics, and entertaining is what I was put on this earth to do, but there's a superficiality to it," she said. "Becoming a mother has helped me to realize who I am aside from my career," she said.
The 'What A Girl Wants' hitmaker has since made a comeback, as one of the four judges on NBC's hit singing competition "The Voice."
But while she's still a workaholic - Aguilera is also currently in the studio recording a new album in addition to working with the World Food Programme to raise funds to fight hunger - family is her priority now.
"The decisions I've made thus far have been made for Max's benefit," she said. "It comes from a place of wanting peace, not chaos.
"I was raised in a very chaotic home, and that's one thing I have no patience for. I have to surround my son with positive, strong relationships so that he feels he has a cohesive family."
Still, raising a child alone has proven to be difficult for the singer.
"It's hard not having the consistency of a partnership on a daily basis," Aguilera said.
"It's a struggle. But I can't single out my ex-husband [as the problem] because he's a devoted father and great with my son,We always make sure that we put Max first. I have help from family and good people around me in support of my career. I couldn't do what I do without a strong team behind me," she added. (ANI)
