London, Jan.10 (ANI): WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has admitted that he is still 'haunted' by the retirement of Lennox Lewis and spoke of having "unfinished business" with David Haye.
The giant Ukrainian, now 40, who has amassed 10 WBC title defences either side of a four-year absence for reconstructive knee surgery between 2004 and 2008, revealed he still dreams of facing former undisputed heavyweight champion Lewis in a re-match, having been stopped against him on a facial cut in the sixth round of their world title fight in 2003.
At the time, Klitschko was ahead on all three judges' cards.
The business with Haye, disclosed Klitschko on Monday, remains "miles from the deal being finalised".
Pre-knee surgery, Lewis still loomed large, an undisputed champion for the Ukrainian to look up to and compare himself against.
The only unification fight for him out there today - and one that will never come to pass - would be against his brother Wladimir, five years younger and holder of the other three major world title belts, reports The Telegraph.
Recalling his meeting with Lewis, Klitschko said: "The injury stopped me in the fight against Lennox. He promised me we would fight again. He called me to London, just me and him. His mum was there. We talked for 30 minutes, while his mum scanned me up and down. I flew back to Germany. He rang me and said 'Vitali, I'm not going to fight you'. His mum made the decision. Then he retired." (ANI)
