Jaitley says unrest and anguish in society due to religion based reservation

New Delhi, Tue, 10 Jan 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Jan 10 (ANI): Slamming the Central Government on providing reservation to Muslim minorities from the existing quota reserved for 'Other Backward Classes' (OBC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley has said that there was unrest and anguish in the society because of this religion based reservation.

"The Constitution of India does not give us the liberty to bring religion based reservation. Why is the government doing it, we fail to understand? Why are they trying to divide the country based on religion? Jaitley asked

He said the BJP would condemn it all over the country.

"There is unrest and anguish in the society because of this religion based reservation," he added.

Union Cabinet ordered 4.5 percent of reservation in government jobs and educational institutions for the backward minorities, which is considered to be olitically significant.

Providing reservation to backward minorities by government is considered as key initiative ahead of 2012 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, which has a substantial number of Muslim population. (ANI)
