Sydney, Jan 09(ANI): Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc took three wickets for Sydney Sixers against cross-town rivals Sydney Thunders at ANZ Stadium last night.
His performance can persuade Australian captain Michael Clarke and coach Micky Arthur to pick him for the third Test match against India at Perth.
Starc's performance against Thunders can prove as a catalyst for his re-entry in the Australian Test squad after he was dropped from the team before the series against India.
Starc was named as the replacement for pace man James Pattinson who suffered a foot injury during the second Test match against India in SCG.
Australia will pick from off-spinner Nathan Lyon and Starc for the third Test match at Perth, which has a bouncy pitch tradition, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Starc has claimed that making the Australian Test squad matters more to him rather than the three wickets in the Twenty20 event.
"For me to get the chance to go over to Perth and push my claims in the nets and to try and get a spot in that final XI is more important than three wickets here," said Starc.
"It's always important for the team (to get wickets), but on a personal note, it's a bit different with the red ball," he added.
Starc claimed that he is in touch with Clarke and Micky Arthur and they are happy with his progress so far.
"I spoke with them (Arthur and Clarke) after the New Zealand series and they were happy with how I was coming along," he added. (ANI)
