London, Jan 08(ANI): British boxer Amir Khan has received a re-match against current champion Lamont Peterson for the two Championship belts, his promoters have said.
Golden Boy Promotions Chief executive Richard Schaefer, who represents Khan in the United States, has claimed that the latter has been offered a rematch with Peterson by World Boxing Association, and he also pressed the International Boxing Federation to do the same.
"We have been informed today by the WBA that they will order an immediate rematch. We received a verbal confirmation today and we will get a written confirmation by next Tuesday. That means that no fighter can take an interim fight, that the next fight for Peterson would be a rematch," Schaefer said.
Schaefer urged IBF to take the same step, the Guardian reports.
"We hope that the IBF will follow because that's the least they can do. The ruling of the WBA to order an immediate rematch should put additional pressures on the IBF," he added.
Schaefer also reiterated Khan's claim of turning his match against Peterson as 'no contest'.
"It's difficult to guess the no-contest ruling. I certainly hope this could happen," he added.
Khan had demanded a rematch after claiming that a mystery man had unlawfully interfered in his match against Peterson on December 10. (ANI)
