Kolkata, Jan 6 (ANI): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Biman Bose on Friday appeared to be in tune with Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress's decision to rename Indira Bhavan in Kolkata after the poet Nazrul Islam, and said that the issue should not be blown out of proportion.
Bose, who is the chairman of the West Bengal Left Front, said that things should be reorganised in a different way, without creating a situation for debate.
"When things will be reorganised that should be done in a different mode, but not create any controversy with Nazrul Islam. The Left Front thinks that this is an unwarranted issue, the government should not meddle this issue in that manner," he told the media here.
Bose further said Kazi Nazrul Islam was a great poet and the debate over his name is unnecessary.
"Kazi Nazrul Islam is a great poet, is a great writer, also inspired the freedom fighters and he is not only the property of West Bengal, he is the property of the country and also the neighbouring country Bangladesh. So, with him and his name should not be a subject of debate. This debate is completely unwarranted," he added.
Congress Party has, however, raised its objections over TMC's proposal to alter the name of Indira Bhavan, named after late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, saying the move was an 'insult' to the revered national leader.
Since the past few days, several cracks have appeared in the ties between the ruling Congress Party and Mamata Banerjee-led TMC.
Strain was visible during a Parliamentary debate on the Lokpal Bill in the Rajya Sabha on December 29, when the TMC opposed certain provisions in the government draft of the anti-graft legislation. (ANI)
