Australia thrash India by innings and 68 runs in Sydney Test

Sydney, Jan 6 (ANI): Australia thrashed India by an innings and 68 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the test match played at the Sydney Cricket Ground here.

 

Gautam Gambhir's 83 off 142 balls, Sachin Tendulkar's 80 off 141 balls and V.V. S. Laxman's 66 off 119 balls provided some entertainment for the Indian fans.

 

The three Indian batsmen, however, could not save the day before a decent Australian bowling attack.

 

This is India's sixth straight loss away from home. India have lost six consecutive Tests away from home - four to England and two to Australia.

 

Australian skipper Michael Clarke was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant triple ton.

 

The visitors India, who had made 191 in the first innings after opting to bat first, were all out for 400 in the second. Anchored by Michael Clarke's brilliant 329 not out, Australia amassed a mammoth 659 for 4 (declared) in the first innings.

 

On the fourth day today, the touring Indian side resumed their second innings on the overnight score of 114 for 2, with Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar at the crease.

 

Continuing their attack, the Australian pacers struck rightaway, with Peter Siddle bagging Gambhir. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was then joined by VVS Laxman at the crease and both shared a 103-run stand for the fourth wicket, trying to trim the massive Australian lead.

 

Aussie bowler Ben Hilfenhaus was at his the best with ball, as he bagged five crucial Indian wickets. Michael Clarke was adjudged man of the match.

 

The third test will be played at Perth from January 13.(ANI)
