Tinsukia, Jan 4 (ANI): A militant belonging to the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) laid down arms before the state authorities in Assam's Tinsukia District.
The ULFA militant, Hemankanta Changmai laid down his AK-47 rifle and several rounds of bullets in a ceremony, on Tuesday and pledged to renounce violence.
Talking to mediapersons, Brigadier Paritosh Pant of 4th Assam Rifles said that the authorities have pledged to capture the militants alive and give them a chance to rebuild their life.
"We have pledged that we will try to catch the militants alive. Through this operation we have proved that we will not fire at them. The militants who are sitting in their camps in Myanmar and other interior villages, we urge them to leave their groups and surrender before us and we will give you full protection," said Pant.
The state government's rehabilitation policy is encouraging more and more misguided youths to abjure violence and join the main stream of the society. (ANI)
