London, Jan 3 (ANI): Nine out of ten people keep their gadgets on permanent charge at home, wasting a total of 134 million pounds a year on overcharging, according to a study.
Many admitted they leave their equipments plugged in because they are scared of running out of power when they leave the house.
About 10 per cent said they are just 'too lazy' to pull out the plug even though it is costing them money.
Overcharging batteries increases household electricity bills by an average 60 pounds a year. It can also cut the lifespan of the battery, said energy firm E.ON, which carried out the study.
The most overcharged devices are laptops, mobile phones and iPods. People aged 18 to 24 are the biggest perpetrators.
"By unplugging your gadgets once they're charged, you'll be helping to reduce your energy bills," the Daily Express quoted Emma Thompson, from E.ON, as saying. (ANI)
