Coldplay scores first UK number one single of 2012 with 'Paradise'

London, Jan 2 (ANI): Coldplay have knocked Military Wives' Christmas number one Wherever You Are off the top spot as their Grammy-nominated song 'Paradise' clinched the first number one single of 2012, according to the Official Charts Company.

Military Wives' number has moved down to fourth position as Olly Murs took the second spot with his new single Dance With Me Tonight.

While Coldplay's Paradise originally debuted at number 14 in the charts when it was originally released on October 30, it climbed up to number two the week before Christmas, the Daily Mail reported.

The beguiling track is taken from Coldplay's fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto, which has set a new Official Charts record for the highest number of digital copies to be sold during an album's first week of release.

In spite of being a regular fixture in the charts since bursting on to the music scene in the early 90s, 'Paradise' is only Coldplay's second number one, the first being Viva La Vida in 2008.

Flo Rida's Good Feeling has grabbed the third spot on the first singles chart of 2012.

Rihanna and Calvin Harris' 'We Found Love' is on fifth position, followed by Little Mix's cover of Damien Rice's Cannonball at number 6. (ANI)
