Hussey says Sydney Cricket Ground 'dustbowl' pitch may help spinners

Sydney , Sun, 01 Jan 2012 ANI

Sydney, Jan 1(ANI): Australian batsman Michael Hussey has said the Sydney Cricket Ground pitch will likely assist spinners.

His statement came after inspecting the pitch being prepared for the second Test against India starting on January 3.

"Certainly in the last few years I think the Sydney pitch has changed texture from when it used to be a real dustbowl and helped the spinners, The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hussey, as saying.

"The last few years have been really seamer friendly and there's been overhead conditions to help that as well ... particularly tough for batting, especially early in the match," he added.

Australia is considering picking four pace bowlers in the squad for the Sydney Test, and would have to make a choice between off-spinner Nathan Lyon or a pace battery of Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, Peter Siddle and James Pattinson

Hussey said Lyon might be the best option taking into account pitch conditions.

"It looks definitely a lighter colour and generally that's the way it's gone over here, it has slowed down a little bit and helped the spinners as the game's gone on," he said. (ANI)
