National, Tue, 07 Oct 2008 IANS

New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS) A 52-year-old government official Tuesday allegedly committed suicide by jumping to death from his fifth-floor office in Udyog Bhavan, which houses the industry and commerce ministry, Delhi Police said.

H.S. Kathuria, working as deputy industrial advisor in the department of chemicals, locked himself in his office and then allegedly jumped from a window around 1.40 p.m. He was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the police said.

'Our initial investigations suggest that he was under depression since he met with an accident and had some partial handicap for the past two years,' said a police officer.

The police said his wife works with the Reserve Bank of India and their two children are settled abroad, one in Dubai and the other in the US.

The police said the family was informed and no suicide note was recovered from Kathuria.
