Varanasi, Dec 30 (ANI): Floriculture business in Uttar Pradesh is blooming as farmers in Varanasi work determinedly to keep up with rising demand of flowers during the New Year.
Flowers, especially roses, have a large demand during the New Year.
Wholesale floral distributors are working overtime as the sale has grown during the past week.
A farmer, Balkishan said most of the farmers took to floriculture due to higher profits in the business.
He added that due to the symbolic significance, there is a high demand of roses, which has led them into paying more attention to its cultivation.
"We are into the cultivation of roses as well as various other flowers. But right now there is high demand for roses," he said.
Another farmer, Bulan Patel said that people prefer to give flowers instead of items like cards.
A single rose usually sold for Rs.15 to Rs.20, fetches up to Rs.25 or more, during this season. (ANI)
