London, Dec 29 (ANI): Most people in the US share their birthday on September 16 apparently because nine per cent of all babies are conceived between Christmas and New Year, a new study has revealed.
According to a series of recent studies and reports cited on the Daily Beast, season and temperature play a major role in dictating our sexual appetite, though the popularity of December in particular is most likely attributed to the high volume of parties and socialising that take place that month, the Daily Mail reported.
It could also be said that long, cold days of the Yuletide period steer couples indoors for the evening, where there is minimal distraction from the bedroom.
In fact, it is not just conception rates that rise towards the end of the year but condom sales also double in December, indicating that sexual activity in general rises.
"The period from Christmas to the New Year is associated with increased opportunities for socializing and a generally more hedonistic approach to life," the report said
On the other hand, the month of August is described as the annual 'trough' for conception rates, which results in far fewer births in April.
A University of Texas study revealed that warmer weather could have a biological impact on our bodies, which affects desire to have sex.
The study has been published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. (ANI)
