Photo exhibition on Odissi dance

Bhubaneswar, Dec 29 (ANI): In a bid to promote the tradition of teacher-student relationship and to display the varied styles of Odissi dances, photographer Arabinda Mohapatra exhibited the photographs of eminent Odissi dancers during the ongoing International Odissi Festival.

Foreign tourists, who visited the exhibition appreciated the presentation of the dance performances by great artistes portrayed in the photographs.

"I think it's a very good documentation of all the great artistes in Odissi dance and its put together in one place where everyone can actually admire and appreciate all this amazing dances," said Mishal, a foreign visitor.

The tourists expressed their pleasure, and were thrilled to see the dance styles of various artistes under one roof.

"It's amazing because I think they have done a really good job of including all the different gurus (teachers) of so many generations relevant to these times with regards to Odissi," said Shantana, a foreign visitor.

Artistes from more than 30 countries including USA, Russia, Japan, Israel, Netherlands, Germany, and Sweden congregated at a stadium to perform a classical dance sequence, choreographed by Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra, with a motive to create a world record.

The festival has been jointly organised by Tourism and Culture Department, Odissi Research Centre and the US-based Indian Performing Arts Promotion (IPAP). (ANI)
