India's preparation well on track for London Olympics: Maken

New Delhi, Dec 27 (ANI): Union Sports Minister Ajay Maken has said that India's preparations for the 2012 London Olympics are well on track.

 

Addressing mediapersons in New Delhi, Maken said that his ministry has planned an outlay of 2.6 billion rupees to spend on training of the athletes, 26 of whom have already qualified for the big event.

 

"Around 26 of our athletes, from various disciplines have already qualified, while the total tally of the last Olympics was 57. After we had made our declaration in March-April, we selected 732 'core probables' from all over the country. 129 coaches have been assigned to them, of whom 19 are from abroad. We have also provided 65 people as support staff," he said. (ANI)

 

In the previous outing India had a total medal tally of three medals including one gold and two bronze. Abhinav Bindra became the first Indian to win an individual medal for the country.(ANI)
