Celebrating the 88th Birthday of Senior Party leader and former Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on 25th December 2011 marked it as 'Sushasan Day' (The good governance day).
Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Prime Minister of India since 19th March 1998 to 19th May 2004. During this period, he had done several innovative works for India and stepped up some major initiative works that were being followed by his successors.
On his 88th Birthday, BJP organised a seminar 'Sushasan Day' on Sunday and recalled his achievements during the periods of his Prime Ministership and membership of Janasangh and BJP.
Senior BJP leader and former party president Venkaiah Naidu recalled Atal's major initiative steps and achievements during his governance in his speech including low level of inflation, peaceful and prosperous environment, strengths of rupee as against dollar, Pokhran nuclear testing, Kargil victory (known as operation Vijay), connecting the country through roads and connecting the states through rivers, beginning mobile phone revolution and granting cable television licenses etc..
His achievements have helped the country to be recognized as one of the fastest growing countries in the world, added Naidu.
Anant Kumar, Senior Party leader from Karnataka stated that Vajpayee had shown the courage in the Kargil War and during his governance, the relationships of India were sweetened with other neighbouring countries. His stand was also appreciable when several developed nations had imposed several economical bans over India after Pokhran Nuclear Testing.
Concluding the seminar, party President Nitin Kumar Gadkari stated that Atal Bihari Vajpayee is still the tallest leaders and biggest Prime Ministers of India so far. He still holds prominent place in Bhartiya Janta Party. Party can honour Atalji by renaming its some bigger social sector schemes running in BJP-led states after the name of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
'All of us today pray to god and hope that he would restored good health and pioneered the party leaders in Indian politics,' Gadkari added.
The other top leaders who were present in the seminar were: former party president Rajnath Singh, Member of Parliament and former cricketer Navjot Singh Siddhu, Party President of State (Delhi) Vijender Gupta, former MP and senior party leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra etc..
