Kanshiram Nagar, Dec 24 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh's Kanshiram Nagar District was all decorated and decked up ahead of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi public rally in the district on Saturday.

Rahul who is often dubbed by the party as the youth icon and India's Prime Minister in-waiting, is slated to visit the district as part of his poll campaign in the state along with senior Congress party leader Digvijay Singh and other regional leaders.

District president of Congress from Kanshiram Nagar, Shashi Lata Chauhan, said the entire district has been decked up like a bride, and all the Congress party workers are keen to meet their favourite leader.

"All the Congress workers are filled with enthusiasm and are eager to get a glimpse of Rahul Gandhi. Even the spirit of the youngsters in the city is worth seeing, it seems as if an iconic figure is going to come today to our Kanshiram district. Kanshiram has been decked out like a bride," she said.

However some residents of the district were skeptical about Rahul Gandhi's poll pitch would bear fruits in the elections or not.

"It is very good that Rahul Gandhi, the youth leader, is coming. But the crowd that will gather here will only be because of Rahul Gandhi, and people want to see him. As per the question on how the party will perform in elections, only time will tell. It is difficult to say whether Rahul Gandhi's visit will lead to an increase in vote bank or not," said Bilal, a resident.

Rahul Gandhi is leaving no stone unturned in giving a tough fight to the Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) in the forthcoming state assembly elections.

He has often visited various parts of the state focusing on the lower caste Dalit, Muslims, socially backward classes and marginalised Hindus, visiting their homes and even spending nights there.

The polls in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled for the early part of 2012, is seen as an opportunity for Congress to re-establish its foothold in its erstwhile political base in the country's fifth largest and most populous state, before the 2014 general elections to the parliament. (ANI)
