Amar Singh seeks more reservation for Muslims

New Delhi, Fri, 23 Dec 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Dec 23 (ANI): Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lokmanch President Amar Singh has on Friday sought more reservation for Muslims in government jobs and educational institutions.

He alleged that Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid was ignorant about the Sachar Committee and the Ranganath Mishra Commission that had recommended 8.44 percent reservation for Muslims.

"He has not read the report of the Sachar Committee and the Ranganath Mishra Commission which was constituted by his government. It recommended 8.44 percent reservation for Muslims," said Singh.

"Why have they been granted only four percent reservations? I think Muslims have been cheated," he added.

Salman Khurshid had earlier commenting on the reservation for minorities in the Lokpal Bill said that the government wanted representation from all sections of society in the anti-graft bill.

The Union Cabinet had on Thursday approved 4.5 percent quota for the minorities from the 27 percent quota meant for the Other Backward Classes (OBC)

Many, however, consider this as a move of the ruling Congress Party to appease the Muslims ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.

Amar Singh also hit out at his former boss and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for opposing the Lokpal Bill.

"If Mulayam Singh is so scared of being arrested by inspector and sub-inspector, then why did his younger brother and his party's ideologue Ram Gopal Yadav shared stage with Anna with Chandrababu Naidu and Brinda Karat," he added.

The government tabled the much-awaited Lokpal Bill in Parliament on Thursday. The Union Cabinet had earlier on Tuesday approved the Bill for creation of the Lokpal with Constitutional status.

The fresh Bill allows the Lokpal to oversee investigation of cases referred by it by the CBI. But, the Bill clearly mentions that CBI will continue to be under the government's administrative control. (ANI)
