New Delhi, Dec 22 (ANI): Reacting to social activist Anna Hazare's remarks on Congress President Sonia Gandhi, party leader and National Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman PL Punia today said that former had made it a habit to pass conspicuous statements on the Lokpal Bill.
"Anna Hazare keeps making conspicuous statements all the time. First he said that if the Parliament does not approve the bill I would go on fast. Then he said that if the bill (ombudsman) were not passed in this session I would go on fast. Now he is passing judgment on the contents of the bill," Punia told the media here.
"I would like to remind him that the law would be made by the Parliament. You have made your suggestions. Members of all political parties and federal lawmakers, running this country, have given their opinion. So now, any person would pass judgement on the bill and the government will succumb to all demands, that is not possible," he added.
Hazare today challenged Sonia Gandhi to a public debate on it to convince people that the proposed legislation should be strong.
"Sonia Gandhi said the bill is strong. If it is so, let she come out and debate with us in front of media. Let people see it. Convince the people of the country that it is strong," he told reporters here.
"Let them explain it to the nation how their bill is strong and we will tell them how their version of Lokpal Bill is weak," Anna added.
He further said that he would go on with his proposed 'Jail Bharo Andolan' from December 30-31 and would court arrest outside Sonia Gandhi's residence.
The Union Cabinet had on Tuesday approved the Bill for creation of the Lokpal with Constitutional status.
The fresh Bill allows the Lokpal to oversee investigation of cases referred by it by the CBI. But, the Bill clearly mentions that CBI will continue to be under the government's administrative control. (ANI)
