Lawry praises selection of Cowan as Warner's new opening partner

Sydney, Dec 22(ANI): Former Australian cricket captain Bill Lawry has praised the National Selection Panel's(NSP) decision to chose Tasmanian Opener Ed Cowan for the Bozing Day Test against India.

Lawry believes that Cowan will suit his more aggressive partner David Warner in a nice way.

Last two test series for Australia against South Africa and New Zealand has caused serious question marks over the two opening combinations, which were played. Warner and Philip Hughes could only manage meager opening stands of 72, 7, 11 and 3 against New Zealand. Whereas Shane Watson and Hughes could also barely manage opening stands of 0, 174, 4 and 9 against the mighty Proteas, reports The Sydney Morning Herald

Many believe that Cowan has earned a call in the Australian Cricket team since he has performed brilliantly over the last two to three years."I think they are looking for a traditional opening pair and it could be just what Australia needs for now. I think it's a good step as both are different kind of players and could be just perfect for each other and Australia", says Lawry.

Lawry also believes that this is going to be a high scoring Test series and added that the team scoring more would have a better chance of winning the Test series. (ANI)
