New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): With the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre returning the resolution passed by the Uttar Pradesh Assembly for division of state into four parts, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader on Tuesday accused the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government of deliberately taking up this stand to develop internal conflicts among the people of the state.
The proposal to divide the state of Uttar Pradesh is a decision taken in a hurry by the state government. The government did not consider the division all the issues related to it. Do think a proposal of state division can be passed in 25 seconds in the state assembly? The state government deliberately took this stand to develop internal conflicts among the people of the state," Singh told the media here.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi commenting on the issue said that the division of Uttar Pradesh would not solve the problems of corruption and poverty in the state.
"There is a way to approach state division. Division can only take place after a reaching a common consensus among the public. Whether it is Congress or Bahujan Samaj Party or Samajwadi Party, all are creating confusion among the public over the issue of state division," said Naqvi.
"Did the people of Uttar Pradesh demand for division? Is it a necessity of the state? And whether a division can resolve the rampant corruption, scandals, starvation and unemployment in the state?" he asked.
The Uttar Pradesh assembly passed a motion by voice vote last month to divide the state into four smaller parts.
The proposal sought the creation of Awadh Pradesh, Poorvanchal, Bundelkhand and Paschim Pradesh by splitting Uttar Pradesh. (ANI)
