London, Dec 17(ANI): England footballers who are participating in Euro 2012 tournament will not be allowed to represent Great Britain (GB) in the London 2012 Olympics.
England's GB manager Stuart Pearce, who had not initially ruled anyone out, described it as "a sensible football decision".
"We have agreed that any player who boards the plane to the European Championship will not be considered for selection to Team GB," the BBC quoted Pearce, as saying.
"We have had discussions as we come now to notifying the long list of the players who could potentially be selected and it is important to make clear what we have agreed regarding England players who will be at Euro 2012," he added.
The English Football Association's move comes after Premier League managers had voiced concerns about the demands on some young players.
England's 18-member male squad for the Games will comprise only three players aged above 23.
Women's team, however, does not have any age restrictions to participate in the Games.
The decision implies that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland players would participate in Olympics, as they did not qualify for Euro 2012.
But football associations from these countries were angry over representing Great Britain, which they felt would threaten their autonomy.elsh players Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale have indicated their desire to participate in the Games. (ANI)
