BJP accuses Rahul Gandhi of being silent on key issues

Agra, Sat, 17 Dec 2011 ANI

Agra, Dec 17 (ANI): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad has accused Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi of being silent on key burning issues concerning the country like graft, black money and high inflationary prices.

Talking to reporters here, Prasad said that Gandhi can no longer keep mum on important issues.

"He makes many addresses in Uttar Pradesh, but then why is he ilent over issues like inflation, 2G spectrum allocation scam, fresh allegation pouring in on Home Minister Chidambaram; he has to answer this question. Why does not he have any thing to say over black money, people have suffered the inflation that has come during the governance of Congress party led federal government?," asked Prasad.

Prasad further said that the state regional parties should withdraw their support from the UPA government in order to register their protest against the key issues like corruption and black money.

"Whether it is the issue of corruption or black money the Congress party, Samajwadi party and Bahujan Samaj party are related directly or indirectly. Today also their letter of support is lying with the UPA. They should display their courage by withdrawing that letter," he said.

Prasad further slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati over bad governance of the region.

"The people of Uttar Pradesh have witnessed crime, fear and corruption under the governance of Samajwadi party earlier and have suffered similarly under the tenure of Mayawati. This state government likes adding to the wounds of the common man.

Today I am in Agra and this is what I have absorbed here as well. People are suffering due to lack of fertilisers, water and electricity. The people of Uttar Pradesh are now hoping for a change and I believe that this change would soon come," said Prasad.

The polls in Uttar Pradesh, scheduled for the early part of 2012, are seen as an opportunity for Congress party to re-establish it foothold in its erstwhile political base in the country's fifth largest and most populous state, before the 2014 general elections to the parliament. (ANI)
