New Delhi, Dec 16 (ANI): The United Naga Council, the apex body of Nagas, has stopped all work at the Jiribam-Tupul Trans Asian Railway in Tamenglong district of Manipur. They have imposed this ban for a period of two months.
"Our volunteers have stopped the work at the spot and have requested the organizations involved in work here to cooperate with us. This ban is imposed for two months," said L Adani, president of United Naga Council.
He further added that till now there has been no communication from the government and we will review our decision on removing the ban only after any communication from the government.
The decision to impose a ban came after United Naga Council expressed its dissatisfaction over the Prime Minister's commitment to maintain the territorial integrity of Manipur during his recent visit to the state.
The United Naga Council has been pushing for alternative arrangement for the Nagas living in Manipur.
The members of United Naga council and other tribes and communities convened a meeting in Tahamzam in Senapati on December 15 and adhered to some of the resolutions that included early settlement of Indo-Naga issue and objection to the bifurcation of Naga areas for up gradations or creation of Sadar Hills.
The council previously imposed an economic blockade in Manipur to oppose the inauguration of Sadar Hills, which they lifted on November 29 just before the visit of Prime Minister to Manipur. (ANI)
