Rayagada, Dec 14 (ANI): Orissa Police have seized arms and ammunition allegedly dumped by Maoists in the Sitagudi forest area near Phulbani District.
The Rayagada District police unearthed huge cache of weapons and explosives after receiving a tip-off from a surrendered Maoist.
"We had some specific input last week that a Maoist leader Nikhil was to take this dump. They were planning to launch attacks in neighbouring districts," said Anup Krishna, Superintendent of Police, Rayagada.
Krishna said the arms and ammunition were dumped by dead Maoist leader Koteshwar Rao, alais Kishenji.
The cache of weapons included 15 landmines each weighing 5 kilograms, 18 tiffin carriers used for making bomb, 14 country-made guns, six pressure bombs, 50 detonators and grenades were also found at the spot.
The Maoist insurgency has spread into 20 of the country's 28 states despite strong measures initiated by the Central Government to crush the ultras. (ANI)
