Warne confident about playing Big Bash despite burned fingers

Melbourne, Dec.13 (ANI): Former Australian leg spinner Shane Warne said Tuesday that he is confident about playing Cricket Australia's Big Bash League (BBL) despite burning his fingers.

Admitting that he may experience some difficulty in bowling his trademark leg-breaks, Warne told the Herald Sun that he was "probably" 95 per cent certain to make his Big Bash debut on schedule on Saturday night.

The trouble-prone star appeared at a promotional breakfast in Melbourne with his right hand heavily bandaged, having burned three fingers while cooking bacon for breakfast on Monday.

He said the blisters had been cut and drained but said there were "a couple of awkward ones on the spinning fingers," adding that spinning the ball could rip the skin open again.

Warne was uncertain whether he would participate in a scratch match the Melbourne Stars will play at a school oval tomorrow morning, saying he would consult his doctor first.

But he was keen to allay fears that he might miss the Stars' opening game in the new Twenty20 competition, against Sydney Thunder, at the MCG on Saturday night.

"The hand's going along fine, thank you, and should be fine for Saturday," he was quoted, as saying.

Warne dismissed the possibility of playing only as a batsman, saying that he could hardly be expected to "rock up at No.3 and get 70 off 20 rocks or something".

"If I can't bowl, I won't play. That would be letting the team down," he said. (ANI)
