Guwahati, Dec 10 (ANI): Thirty three cadres of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland and United Liberation Front of Asom recently, surrendered before security forces in Assam's Tezpur District.
The rebels deposited three assault rifles, 24 pistols, nine hand grenades a large cache of explosives and ammunition.
Both the state government and the general public have welcomed their decision to quit violence and join the mainstream.
On the occasion, Lieutenant General Shakti Gurung of the Gajraj Corps said the development of Assam lay in the hands of those giving up armed rebellion and joining the mainstream.
"The development of Assam would begin, which is your wish, if you join the main stream. The government has kept the path open for you to join the main stream," said Lt. Gen. Gurung.
Over 200 insurgents in Northeast have surrendered this year.
Security forces have assured the surrendered cadres that they would be provided assistance in their rehabilitation process.
The mass surrenders of the PULF (Umar Faroouq faction) and KCP MC (Lallumba faction) and PRA have set an example for other outfits to stop violence and find peaceful solutions to the problems.
If this trend continues, unrest could be brought to an end and the development activities could gain momentum. (ANI)
