Wellington, Dec 6(ANI): Former batsman and leading rugby administrator David White has been appointed as the Chief Executive of New Zealand Cricket (NZC).
He will replace Justin Vaughan who had earlier decided to quit due of personal reasons after tenure exceeding four years.
"The board of NZC is delighted to have secured the services of such an experienced sports administrator as David. In addition it is a bonus that David has represented New Zealand in cricket and played for Northern Districts for 15 years, including being captain for two seasons," stuff.co.nz quoted NZC Chairperson Chris Moller, as saying.
White has been the chief executive of Auckland Rugby, the Blues, Wellington Rugby and the Hurricanes.
He also headed official travel and hospitality programme for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
White needs to resign from the board of New Zealand Cricket Players' Association before assuming the new role from February 1, 2012.
Though White would be based at Lincoln, his family will continue living in Auckland.
"The board of NZC is acutely aware that David's appointment will fuel speculation about the future location of NZC. I can assure everyone that no decision has been made regarding the future location of NZC and if and when such a matter is considered, it will be a decision made by the board, not by the CEO," Moller said.
White played 106 first-class cricket matches for Northern Districts between 1979 and 1993. He also represented New Zealand in two Test matches against Pakistan in 1990. (ANI)
