Washington, Dec 2 (ANI): Paper wasps have been found to recognize faces the same way as the human brain does.
Researchers at the University of Michigan, USA, have found that paper wasps evolved specialized face-learning abilities similar to the system used by humans.
One of the researchers described the findings as 'surprising and bizarre'.
"Wasps and humans have independently evolved similar and very specialized face-learning mechanisms, despite the fact that everything about the way we see and the way our brains are structured is different," said graduate student Michael Sheehan who worked on the study.
"That's surprising and sort of bizarre," he said.
"Humans have a specialized face-learning ability... it's important to note that we're not claiming the exact process by which wasps learn faces is the same as humans," he added.
The findings were published online in the journal Science. (ANI)
