Juggling batting, bowling becoming increasingly difficult: Watson

Melbourne, Tue, 29 Nov 2011 ANI

Melbourne, Nov 29 (ANI): Injured Australia vice-captain Shane Watson has admitted that his days as an opening batsman could be numbered as his role with the ball continues to increase.

His bowling has been used more than ever since Michael Clarke took over as Test captain, culminating in a record-breaking 5-17 against South Africa in Cape Town.

Watson has bowled 93.5 overs in five Tests since Clarke has been skipper, taking 13 wickets at an average of 16.76.

In an exclusive interview with Inside Cricket, Watson said for the first time that juggling batting and bowling is becoming increasingly difficult.

"One thing I do love as a batsman is opening the batting. There's no doubt that to have the opportunity that I've had is something that I never thought I would but also that I'd embrace it and love it as much as I do.

"But ... my role within team has changed even over the last six months, the amount that I bowl but also how I'm used by Michael. I'm finding it a bit more difficult to be able to try and balance the two," Watson said.

Watson said a decision on his future will be made in consultation with Clarke, new coach Mickey Arthur and Australia's selection panel. (ANI)
