New Delhi, Mon, 28 Nov 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Nov. 28 (ANI): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday urged the youth of the country to participate in politics to clean the system and do away with the menace of corruption.

Addressing first ever National Convention of elected office-bearers of IYC youth wing of Congress, Gandhi said: "People in this country talk about corruption. But the biggest corruption is within the political system. That can be eradicated only if more and more youths join the political system."

Asserting that the youth will add to the power of the Congress Party, Gandhi said: "Internal Democracy brings a change in youth congress, the confidence level of IYC, what I seen here is never before. Congress party have a deft and understanding and when the power of youth will merge in party no one can stop us."

Rahul Gandhi asked the youth office bearers of the Congress Party to reach out to the poor and under-privileged sections of the society and work for their betterment.

"Go to the poor, under privileged and others. Reach out to them. Hold their hands and get to know their problems. Then fight for them. Only if poor people get good quality of life, then the country can progress," he said.

Maintaining that Congress was the first party to usher in democracy in Youth wing through which over one crore people have joined the organization after due checks, Gandhi said: "We have over one crore young people with us in the Youth Wing. The Congress' youth wing is the largest in the country. We have achieved this in the past three years. All of you have been elected by your own cadres. No one jumped to this position because you were related to some politician."

He further claimed that the Congress Party was unique in the sense that all its youth office bearers have been elected on the basis of their merits.

"One thing that other parties fail to understand is that we are unique. Youth Congress reflects voices that are democratically elected. I did not elect you people. All of you are here because of your merit," said Gandhi.

The two-day convention named 'Buniyaad', which began here today will addressed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday. Several other senior party leaders are also expected to attend and address the convention.
