New York, November 28 (ANI): The charity run by Wycleaf Jean has come under scrutiny for alleged misappropriation of the funds it received to help earthquake ravaged Haiti.
Yele Haiti, the organisation founded by the hip-hop singer, has been accused of spending only a small amount of the money it took in on disaster relief in Haiti and giving out questionable contracts worth millions of dollars.
In 2010, Yele Haiti managed to get 16 million dollars in funds, the most it had ever received.
But less than a third of that amount went to emergency efforts, and 1 million dollar was paid to a Florida firm that doesn't seem to exist, the New York Post reported.
Yele Haiti also gave out contracts worth 353,983 dollars to the brother of Jean's wife Claudinette.
He had held press conference on January 18, 2010 and tearfully defended Yele Haiti's reputation.
"Have we made mistakes before? Yes... Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefits? Absolutely not. Yele's books are open and transparent," he had said. (ANI)
